Lipedema & Pregnancy – what you should know
Hormonal changes during pregnancy can affect the course of lipedema—in many women, but not all. Here's the most important information if your lipedema hasn't been operated on yet:
Possible changes:
- Symptoms such as pain and swelling may increase
- In about 50% of affected women, lipedema remains unchanged
- Lipedema can first occur during pregnancy
- Each pregnancy has an individual effect on lipedema
What can support you:
- Gentle exercise such as swimming or yoga
- Well-fitted compression garments – worn consistently
- Lymphatic drainage, provided it is perceived as beneficial
- A balanced, nutrient-rich diet
- Adequate fluid intake
- Close care by doctor and midwife
Our tip:
If pregnancy is planned, prior liposuction can prevent complications. In our experience, successfully treated lipedema does not recur, even during pregnancy.
We wish all expectant mothers all the best – for a new life within a new life.
